Popular Christian musical group Mikeschair will perform at Union College’s Family Worship during the Invitational Basketball Tournament on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The group has recorded three albums and been nominated for numerous Dove awards over the past 10 years.
One evening in a dorm room at Nashville’s Belmont University, lead singer Mike Grayson and a friend were writing a song when Mike’s neighbor Jesse Hale, who now plays violin and keyboards, came knocking asking if he could join. Mikeschair was born. Later Sam Tinnesz, now lead guitarist, walked by when Mike and Jesse were recording. Finally, the guys reached out to a friend, bassist Jon Hair, to fill in the last spot.
The guys felt ready to move their music outside the dorm and entered Belmont’s Christian Music Showcase. After that, Mikeschair began performing every available weekend, spring break and vacation while finishing their education.
In 2009, the band inked a record deal with Curb Records and recorded their self-titled debut. That year, “Can’t Take Away” became the seventh most played song on Christian radio. Close behind was another song from the album, “Let the Waters Rise.” Thier most recent album, All or Nothing, was released in 2014.
Their passion for helping others lead to the launch of “Mikestable” to help nonprofits to make a lasting difference. At every show, “Mikestable” is a place where everyone is welcome and encouraged to step up and join with the band and their ministry partner—Food for the Hungry, International Justice Mission and Love 146.
The concert will take place in the sanctuary of the College View Seventh-day Adventist Church located at the corner of 48th and Prescott on the campus of Union College. Doors will open at 6:30 and the event is free and open to the public.
