Union College made big changes digital presence this week by launching an all-new website and changing the name of its live streaming video channel.
Formerly known as UCLive, Union’s web streaming channel providing live coverage of worship, athletic and academic events will be called uTV. The college will continue to use the Livestream platform, but chose to change the name to match Union’s other digital and social media channels. Access uTV at utv.ucollege.edu
A new website
Union’s new websites, launched just before Christmas, not only features a modern look, but has been completely redesigned from the ground up.
“Our current website was launched in 2012, and web design has changed a lot since then,” said Ryan Teller, executive director for integrated marketing communication. “We wanted to use a new, modern graphical style and structure that allows us to better connect with prospective students and parents, as well as our alumni and community.”
Visitors familiar with the old website will notice the changes are more than skin deep. The creators rebuilt the site on a new software platform and restructured the information in an effort to make everything easier to navigate.
Why change?
Previous versions of the website were designed to be the digital hub for Union College and acted as an important resource for students and employees as well as prospective students looking to attend Union.
“Trying to meet everyone’s needs made the site very large and unwieldy,” said Teller. “In the last few years, Union has implemented internal systems that allow us to host all the information for our students and employees. So when we redesigned the website, we removed most of that information and focused on the experience of prospective students, parents, alumni and community members.”
This approach allowed the team to cut down on a lot of pages and streamline the site significantly.
Help us make the site better
“Good websites are constantly evolving to meet the needs of the users,” said Teller. “We will be tracking the way people use our site in order to improve the way it works. But we would love direct feedback from our users too.”
