A familiar face returns to Union College as Missy Sorter rejoins the Enrollment team as the new Transfer Enrollment Counselor. “I will be doing enrollment for nursing, OTA and even some traveling to the west coast to recruit future students,” Sorter said.
From 2014 through 2016, Sorter worked at Union assisting nursing students as they navigated the application and enrollment process. Her new job will be very similar, but with the additional responsibility of helping occupational therapy assistant majors as well as future nurses.
It’s hard to say she ever really left; for the last six years, she has worked just across the street at College View Academy serving as their Director of Marketing and Admissions. Her twin daughters, Zoe and Alexa, just graduated from CVA this May.
Sorter is excited to rejoin Union because she loves the story behind every student she helps. “One of the things that intrigued me is dealing with transfer students. They come with many experiences — maybe they’ve tried out different majors, maybe even already had a career, or maybe they’ve been in the military.”
She has a particularly strong empathy for students whose calling lies in the health sciences. Before starting her career in admissions, she worked in radiology, and she earned a bachelor’s in radiologic technology from the University of Mary.
Ultimately, Sorter wants to help those going into the healthcare field and prepare them for what is to come because she knows what it is like to take care of the sick. “I feel that there is a lot of pressure going into patient care. But I think there’s a piece of you that likes to comfort and help people.”
