Before heading to NASCAR races in Kansas City, Hall of Fame member Jimmie Johnson and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB teammate Erik Jones will stop by the campus of Union Adventist University in Lincoln on Friday, Sept. 27. Sponsored by AdventHealth, the car will be displayed outside of Union’s new AdventHealth Complex near the corner of 51st and Calvert Streets in the College View Neighborhood from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to stop by anytime during the day to take photos with the car. From 4-5 p.m., students and the community are invited to a panel discussion inside the Reiner Wellness Center featuring both drivers and executives from AdventHealth.
A non-profit health care network founded by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, AdventHealth has sponsored NASCAR since 2015. With more than 50 hospitals in nine states, racetracks like Daytona International Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Kansas Speedway, and Atlanta Motor Speedway are all located near an AdventHealth facility. The network serves as the official healthcare partner for the Daytona International Speedway, Kansas Speedway and Chicago Street Course.
Though the closest AdventHealth locations are in the Kansas City metro area, Union Adventist University has close ties to the healthcare giant thanks to many alumni who work for the network across the country, including doctors, nurses, accountants, marketers, and top executives. AdventHealth and many of its current and former employees were among the lead donors to Union’s new field house which opened in August. The facility has been named the AdventHealth Complex to honor their support and continued commitment. It houses Union’s Reiner Wellness Center and Nursing Program.
About the drivers
Jimmie Johnson is not only one of the greatest racecar drivers of the modern era — he is also one of the most accomplished professional athletes in sports. Throughout Johnson’s storied career, he and the No. 48 team of Hendrick Motorsports recorded 83 wins in 686 starts, tying him with his childhood hero, Cale Yarborough, for fifth on the all-time wins list. He shares the record of seven championship titles with NASCAR Hall of Fame legends Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Now, as team owner of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, Johnson was recently inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This season, Jimmie has driven the No. 84 AdventHealth Toyota Camry in two races in Texas and Kansas and is driving his final race of the year in his AdventHealth scheme this weekend in the Coca-Cola 600.
Erik Jones is the two-time winner in the Southern 500 at Darlington and the driver of the No. 43 AdventHealth Toyota Camry for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. Erik recently married his wife, Holly, who also races, and they are expecting their first child later this year. They have a German Shepherd named Oscar and are very active in the Erik Jones Foundation focusing on reading with children, early screening for skin cancer and animal rights.
