Sami Hoffer took Feature Writing class last spring, and now she is seeing her class assignments appear in print in three different magazines. The sophomore biomedical science major has added writing classes to her schedule so she can earn a second degree in writing studies. “I need the science and math part of my brain to grow as well as the writing part,” she explains. “I hope one day to be a PA helping people with their physical injuries. And then, when I write, maybe I can help people in a different way.”
“I’m so glad she is pursuing the passion for writing that she has had since childhood,” says her professor, Lori Peckham. “She took every opportunity to produce marketable articles in class and connect with editors, and now she is a paid and published author.”
Talent seems to run in Sami’s family. Her great uncle, William Hoffer, is the author of the nonfiction bestsellers Midnight Express and Not Without My Daughter.
