Best known as champions of season two of NBC’s acapella competition show The Sing-Off, Committed will be performing for Union College’s Family Worship on Friday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m.
The group began with six vocalists in 2003—all students at Oakwood University, a Seventh-day Adventist college in Huntsville, Alabama. Committed has released two albums, Committed with Epic Records in 2011 and the 2015 holiday release Home for Christmas.
Now five vocalists, the Grammy-nominated group is made up of Robbie Pressley, Theron “Therry” Thomas, Maurice Staple, Dennis “DJ” Baptiste, Geston Pierre. Their performance of “Do You Hear What I Hear?” was nominated for Best Arrangement—Instrumental or Acapella in 2016. The group also received a Dove Award nomination for Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year for Committed in 2012.
Committed counts Take 6, another acapella vocal group that originated from Oakwood University as one of their influences, and their sound is often compared 1990s acapella genre trailblazers such as Take 6 and Boyz II Men.
