Assistant Professor of Religion
Dr. Pierre F. Steenberg attained a B.A. Theology degree from Andrews University, Michigan. He also earned a B.A. Honors in Biblical Studies, an M.A. in Biblical Studies and a Ph.D. in New Testament Studies from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Both the M.A. and the Ph.D. were attained with distinction - the highest possible grade presented at a South African University at that time. He graduated more recently Magna Cum Laude with a D.Min. in Pastoral Psychology and Family Therapy from the Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, California. He is a member of numerous academic societies in both theology and counseling, including the Society of Biblical Literature and the American Association of Christian Counselors. He is the author of several articles and books.
Pierre has been a pastor, a counselor, and a conference administrator. He earned the credential of BCCC (Board Certified Christian Counselor) from the International Board of Christian Counselors. He is currently serving Union College as an assistant professor of religion/theology.
Pierre is married to Karlien, and they have two adult sons. Pierre enjoys photography, research, and travel.
