At Union, a wide variety of classroom and practical experience will assist students assimilate and develop these qualities.
Why minor in leadership?
- Employers today want recruits who are proactive, can get the job done and are capable of leading a team to do it.
- Leadership skills transfer to any field, whether you’re entering business, medicine, teaching or mission work, and having specific examples of times you managed a team might just land you that job.
The leadership minor was an excellent experience. The class material was interesting, and seeing how it applied to the ‘real world’ was the most valuable part of getting the minor. The different classes helped me better understand my strengths and really made me think about how I could apply them to a career. Understanding different leadership styles is key to success. Being able to pick up on someone’s leadership style has helped me better work with people and understand where they are coming from.

- Through the leadership cohort and Creative Leadership class you’ll specifically design projects to engage with students on campus. Whether it’s making the college more eco-friendly through recycling or discussing “hot topics” with your peers (actual projects), your imagination is the limit.
- As part of the leadership cohort, you’ll rub shoulders with numerous professionals and keynote speakers who come to Union.
- The specialized leadership internship gives students the opportunity to work in a chosen field off-campus. You get experience in an area you’re interested in, and then we’ll give you credit for it.
The leadership program was not only the most fun set of classes and experiences I had in college, but it was also the jumpstart that got me to where I am today. Because of all the techniques I learned for networking, listening to others and being a servant of Christ, I am able to be a mentor to many people around me. I really recommend this program for anyone who wishes to serve successfully!
