Collections

Books

The library has approximately 100,000 titles in our general collection of books covering all subject areas. Most of the books are located on the Stacks 1 level and are arranged by the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Books circulate to standard patrons for one month.

Electronic books

The library currently has access to over 30,000 e-books with the majority of the e-books available through NetLibrary. The subject areas cover a wide variety of topics. E-books may be accessed through our Library Catalog or directly through the NetLibrary link on our Other Libraries page. Please inquire at the Circulation/Reference Desk for more information on how to access the NetLibrary items.

Reference

The library's reference collection, situated near the bound periodicals contains commentaries and other reference works. These sources generally supply factual answers to questions or provide the initial stepping stones for many research projects. Reference works are designed to be consulted for specific questions rather than read straight through and therefore do not circulate.

Periodicals

The library's periodical collection supports both the curriculum and general interest reading. Periodicals include newspapers, magazines, and journals. Current magazines and journals are displayed near the entrance of the library on level 2 with the two most recent issues on the sloping shelves. Lift the shelf to access other recent issues. Older issues are bound and shelved alphabetically in the Stacks 2 level. Current newspapers are available at the Circulation/Reference Desk. The library also has access to thousands of online journals. See Finding Articles for more information or stop by the Circulation / Reference Desk for assistance. The library's periodical collection does not circulate, but selected pages may be photocopied.

Ellen G. White

Copies of books by Ellen G. White and books about her or her writings are located on the Stacks 2 level near the Heritage Room. The titles are arranged alphabetically and circulate for one month.

Heritage Room

The Heritage Room contains items important to the history of Union Adventist University and the College View area, the College View Seventh-day Adventist Church, and the Seventh-day Adventist denomination in general. Significant items in this collection include Seventh-day Adventist publications, the bell from the old Union College clock tower, and Dr. Everett N. Dick's papers and historical collection. Items in this room do not circulate. See Heritage Room & Collection Usage Policy for more information.

Textbooks and teaching materials

The library maintains a small collection of elementary and secondary textbooks and other materials to aid the teacher in the classroom. These items are shelved on the Stacks 1 level and the call numbers are prefixed with Tx (textbooks) or Tm (teaching materials).

Juvenile literature

The library actively collects books for the juvenile literature collection in support of the teacher education program. Picture books are shelved in the E (easy readers) section and all others are shelved in the J (juvenile) section. The reading level for J books is through the sixth grade.
