Lois Dittberner, age 85, of Lincoln, passed away May 18, 2026. She was born Jan. 31, 1941, in Mankato, Minn., to parents Ardie and Hazel Dittberner. She graduated from Maplewood Academy in 1959 and then attended Union College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree double major of Home Economics and Social Welfare and a minor in Religion. Following graduation, Lois worked in food service at Hinsdale Adventist Hospital in Chicago, Ill. She returned home to Mankato where she was a caregiver to her parents and volunteer at the Mankato Seventh-day Adventist church. A highlight was when she accompanied her parents in 1974 on a trip to the Holy Land. After her father passed away 1992, Lois and her mother moved to Lincoln, Neb., to be near her brother’s family. She continued her volunteer work with the College View SDA Church and was primary caregiver to her mother until she also passed. Lois then made her home available to international students who needed a place to live while attending Union College. One of those students took her on an extended trip to visit his family in Brazil. Lois worked for Veterans Affairs and later in home health as a caregiver for Tabitha and Visiting Angels. Lois loved miniature schnauzers and raised several of them over the years. “Buddy” remains in the care of a friend who took him into her home when Lois was no longer able to care for him. Lois is survived by her sister-in-law Beverly Dittberner; nieces, Sherri (’98) (Tony ’95) Cash , Terri ’98 (Randy) Tanner; nephew Brian Dittberner, and four grand nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents Ardie and Hazel (Johnson) Dittberner and brother Dean ’65. Memorials can be sent to Union Adventist University, 3800 S 48th Street, Lincoln, NE, 68506.
