Marlys Marie Sivertson Jensen, 79, was born June 18, 1946, in Watford City, N.D., to Sigurd and Pearl (Foreman) Sivertson. She passed away Jan. 18, 2026. Marlys attended the Stone School in Pleasant Valley, N.D., and later completed high school at Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, N.D. She attended Union College (now Union Adventist University) in Lincoln, Neb., where she graduated in 1969 with a degree in computer science. While at Union College, Marlys met Victor Jensen in 1964. The two shared a long courtship, dating for ten years before being married on March 17, 1974, in Omaha, Neb. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work, sharing 51 years of marriage. Marlys and Victor were blessed with five children: Kami, Kari, Karla, Justin, and Jay. After graduating from Union College, Marlys worked for the school until her marriage in 1974. After marrying, she worked alongside Victor on the family farm, raising registered Herefords and registered Quarter Horses. Later in life, she worked at The Plain dealer until her retirement. Marlys was a faithful member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, north of Tekamah, where she served in many ways and held several church offices. She was also a devoted 4-H leader for over 25 years, generously giving her time to encourage and guide young people in her community. Marlys loved spending time with her family and friends and found joy in gardening and preserving, sewing and tailoring, caring for animals, researching genealogy, and being outdoors. Marlys is survived by her loving husband, Victor (’66) ; her children: Kami (Jason) Bennett; Kari (Dave) Hanneman; Karla ’01 (Mike ’01) Bascom; Justin (Jill); Jay (Natalia); grandchildren, Darren Brinkerhoff, Kaden Brinkerhoff, Alex Bennett, Carter Bennett, Gracie Hanneman, Dillon Hanneman, Eliana Bascom, Angelina Bascom, Natasha Bascom, Isabella Bascom, Marissa Jensen, Kate Jensen, and Allie Jensen; her sisters, Sibyl Herr and Alice Boyko; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sigurd and Pearl (Foreman) Sivertson, and her siblings: Joyce Miller, Joycelyn Sivertson, LeVonne (Bonnie) Fandrich, Sidney, Betty, and Daryl Sivertson. Marlys will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her faith, her devotion to family, and the many lives she touched through her kindness, service, and gentle strength.
