11/20/1936 - 08/14/2026

Mary Jane Harr Morford (’56) passed away Aug. 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends in the home and neighborhood she has loved for more than 40 years. Raised on a farm near Jamestown, N.D., in a Seventh-Day Adventist family, Mary’s strength, faith, loving family ties, and strong work ethic shaped her life. She followed a daily and weekly routine, watching the sun rise over the cattle pasture and hills behind her Collegedale home where her beautiful yard and garden and bird feeders flourished under her care. A good neighbor, she carried dog treats and love on her early morning walks. She shared or preserved her produce and gifted friends with her German kuchen, zucchini bread, and frozen strawberry jam. Mary met her husband, Al ’60, at Union College in Lincoln, Neb., though they had grown up only a few miles apart on their families’ farms in North Dakota. On a GI Bill after 4-years of service in the U.S. Navy, Al trained as a physics, math, and science educator. His teaching took the family to several SDA schools before they came to Collegedale Academy in 1979. Mary worked in secretarial positions, retiring as executive assistant to the Vice President of Finance at Southern Adventist University, after resisting pleas from her boss to continue her valuable, accurate, and always positive contribution to the office. She also served the Collegedale SDA University Church for many years, delivering meals to shut-ins, greeting members and guests, and assisting with offering deposits. She is remembered for her ready smile, her friendly conversation, and sweet, unpretentious, and spontaneous spirit. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Al in 2013, her parents, her two sisters, and her brother. She is survived by her daughters Lori Harr and Vonda Kittle and son Randy (Yvonne) Harr; three granddaughters: Whitney (Jeremy) Romanoff, Camille (Brian) Beck, and Danielle Harr; three great grandsons: Jaxon Romanoff, Luka Harr, and Nicholas Beck, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
