Before applying to the OTA program, students must complete a pre-OTA semester. With guaranteed admission, your spot in the OTA program is secured at the time of enrollment to Union Adventist University.

Eligibility

High school students enrolling in college for the first time who meet the following criteria:

  • Cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Minimum score of 24 on the ACT or 1190 on the SAT 1600 scale.

After you're accepted...

Steps after acceptance to the program

Submit program deposit—A non-refundable fee of $200 is required once admission to the program has been granted. This fee holds your program seat and is credited to your program fee at the start of the first semester of OTAC classes.  

Attend orientation session—Attendance is required. Information about this session will be included with the applicant's acceptance letter.

Additional  Requirements

The program requires the following immunizations to ensure compliance with policies at our collaborating healthcare facilities. CastleBranch will verify student documentation of immunizations to determine compliance with immunization requirements. Minimum immunization requirements are mandatory for fieldwork participation.

Hepatitis B

Vaccination with the three-dose series OR a positive Hepatitis B Surface Antibody titer.

Influenza

Annual vaccine aligns with flu season

Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR)

Documentation of blood test indicating immunity OR documentation of two vaccines given after one year of age and given at least four weeks apart

Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Tdap)

Single dose as soon as feasible if you have not previously received a Tdap booster

Tuberculosis

A two-step test is required during the OTA program, prior to fieldwork. One current tuberculin skin test is required every 12 months.

Varicella

Positive Varicella Zoster titer OR documentation of two doses of Varicella Zoster vaccine

Students are expected to comply with the minimum immunization guidelines established by the program in collaboration with local healthcare facilities. Immunization requirements are mandatory for participation in fieldwork. Students are responsible for obtaining required immunizations and for maintaining current immunization records within Castlebranch.

CPR Certification: Must hold current certification in the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers course.

Drug Screening: A negative drug screen is required before acceptance into the program and may be required again before participating in fieldwork experiences.

Background Check: Students must successfully pass a criminal background check in accordance with program and fieldwork site requirements.

Maintaining good academic standing

Once accepted into the OTA program, students are expected to meet criteria for maintaining good academic standing. This includes:

  • Maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher
  • Achieving a minimum grade of “C” in all OTA program courses
  • Progressing through OTA courses as outlined in the Union Adventist University Bulletin. Students may petition the sequence based upon the College petition policy when appropriate.
